As reported by The Information,
The Social Media Giant, Facebook starts working on its own version of the Operating System to replace Android OS for its future hardware products such as Oculus and Portal.
Facebook has given the task to build its own OS to Mark Lucovsky, the co-author of Microsoft's OS called Windows NT.
The Report further suggests that it seems as if Facebook is looking to take the Apple “Walled Garden” approach to its current and future hardware. By that we mean that Facebook would like total control over the ecosystem, everything from the design of the hardware itself to the processors powering that hardware, and further on to the operating system that runs it all.
Facebook is already building AR/VR headsets like Oculus and has forayed into video calling devices like Portal that currently runs Android OS.
Also, it is rumored that they were working on a Facebook voice assistant for future smart speakers and displays. Facebook has even contacted Microsoft to license data from its Bing search engine to train the assistant.
