Samsung Electronics Co. unveils the "Ballie" robot at the CES technology conference in Las Vegas, including a rounded robot assistant and AR glasses for augmented reality.

Samsung CES 2020: Ballie Robot

Samsung's Ballie is a rolling robot that follows you around the kind of like BB-8, but the size of a tennis ball-shaped droid from the “Star Wars” franchise.
According to Samsung, 
Ballie Robot can be used to guard your home, the device, which comes outfitted with a camera, searching for criminals. 
That camera can also be used to capture “special moments,” said Sebastian Seung, executive vice president at Samsung Electronics.

“Ballie is an interesting concept,” Ben Wood, an analyst at market research firm CCS Insight, told CNBC. “I fully expect domestic robots to evolve quickly over the next decade. Some consumers are already embracing devices such as robot vacuum cleaners so concepts such as Ballie are a logical next step.”

“It is hard to believe a rival such as Amazon does not have future plans to evolve its Echo product line - for example, a domestic robot that could potentially be called an EchoBot,” Wood continued. “However such devices will be lightning conductors for privacy concerns and I expect Samsung’s demo to result in deeply polarised views with those who like the concept and those who loathe it.”

During a presentation ahead of the opening of CES 2020, Samsung’s consumer electronics, also says Ballie is also a fitness assistant.
The company also teased a pair of augmented reality smart glasses as part of a demonstration of its Gems mobility exoskeleton first seen last year, which is used to help improve mobility in those with mobility conditions.
