YouTube Premium subscribers are being offered a free channel membership every month. Premium users pay $11.99 per month in return for no ads, video downloads, and background play for video and music.Youtube Premium Channel memberships cost $4.99 per month and act as a way to support YouTube Creators who receive 70 percent of that membership payment.
Effectively, YouTube is gifting Premium subscribers a $4.99 channel subscription every month, which is very similar to a feature Twitch has to allow Amazon Prime subscribers to sign up for a free Twitch channel subscription.
Some Premium subscribers around the world including in Australia, Canada, Germany, Norway, and Sweden have been assisted with a snack bar about a free channel membership while browsing YouTube.com. They are taken to a page that lets them shows notification as,
“Choose 1 channel this month” and lists current subscriptions that offer memberships.Youtube Premium users have been already reported via YouTube's support forum that free monthly memberships are not actually working as of yet. So, it looks like the feature not quite been finalized. Interestingly, a similar offering is already available for Amazon Prime subscribers on Twitch, so it makes sense that YouTube would try to rival it with one of its own. Google has not yet responded for comment on the matter.
