Google launches ‘Read Along’ Android App for the little ones to learn to read during this quarantine! Google just launched the new ‘Read Along’ Android App for the little ones to learn to read during this quarantine, which helps teach reading skills to elementary school students, is now available in early access in around 180 countries.

Read Along by Google's main objective is to help school children to read and speak a certain language, through sound and visual activities. With the help of several children's stories, the virtual assistant Diya is able to identify difficulties that may exist in the pronunciation of some words or phrases.

This application has been around for some time, having been originally launched in India with the aim of helping children to be able to speak English and Hindi. Taking into account the great challenge that the majority of the world population is going through, 'Google decided to launch the application globally'.

Google in a released statement;
“She gives them positive and reinforcing feedback along the way, just as a parent or teacher would. Children can also tap Diya at any time for help pronouncing a word or a sentence”.
Obviously, for that, they needed to add support for other languages. For now, the application supports English, Hindi, Bangla, Urdu, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Spanish and Portuguese.

  1. Works Offline: Once downloaded, it works offline, so it does not use any data.
  2. Safe: Since the app is made for children, there are no ads, and all sensitive information stays only on the device.
  3. Free: The app is completely free to use and has a vast library of books with different reading levels from Pratham Books, Katha Kids & Chhota Bheem, with new books added regularly.
  4. Games: Educational games within the app, make the learning experience fun.
  5. In-App Reading Assistant: Diya, the in-app reading assistant helps children read out loud and provides positive reinforcement when they read correctly, and help wherever they get stuck.
  6. Multi-Child Profile: Multiple children can use the same app and create their individual profiles to track their own progress.
  7. Personalized: The app recommends the right level of difficulty books to each child depending on their reading level.


Read Along is available for free and does not require an internet connection to be used. Users can download their content while connected to a WiFi network, and then use the application even when they are offline.

Google also promises that the application does not collect any information about users and devices used, making no connection with its services. So, since there is also no need to sign in with a Google account, you can be sure that your personal information will be safe.
