Facebook has just launched a new group video calling feature called 'Messenger Rooms'. When you set up a room you can invite up to 50 video callers to join the call… and one interesting feature is they don’t even need a Facebook account to join the call. Just send a link to your friends and they can click to join the conversation.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a live-streamed announcement on Friday, that the ability to connect over live video has 
"emerged as especially important during this pandemic." Beyond video conferencing for work, he said, 

"There are even more social uses of this, just for people to stay connected."

Video conferencing has become a staple for many people stuck at home during the coronavirus pandemic. It's how they keep up with work, school, family, friends, and activities.
Zoom has become wildly popular, with more than 300 million people now participating in meetings on its platform every day, the company said on Wednesday.
However, Zoom's ease of use -- initially, users just needed to click a single link to join a meeting -- has made the service a target for abuse. In "Zoombombing" attacks, unwanted intruders have disrupted meetings with pornography and racist harassment. Zoom has since taken steps to improve security, including requiring participants to enter passwords by default.
Facebook has the potential to reach a much broader audience. It says it has seen growing use of its two messaging apps, Messenger and WhatsApp, with more than 700 million people making voice or video calls every day.

To get started with Facebook Messenger Rooms,

• Participants can join without downloading an app, You just create a room, you have the option of sharing it on your feed, in groups, or on event pages, so people can drop in and out as they please.
• Rooms can be public or private (in which case you can only join if you have an invite).
• You can also use Facebook Messenger’s AR features to replace your background or apply other effects.
• Messenger Rooms connections are not end-to-end encrypted.

Messenger Rooms Security Measures

For safety measures, the host can choose who can see the room and join it. Participants can be removed from the call and the host can even lock the room when they see fit to stop new participants from joining. On the other hand, participants can leave a room whenever they want, even if it is locked.
The participants can even report a violation of Facebook’s Community Standards to the app. However, the report or feedback should not include audio or video excerpts from the call. When someone you’ve blocked is logged into Facebook or Messenger, they won’t be able to join a room you’re in and you won’t be able to join theirs.
When a participant joins a room through Facebook or Messenger, other members who they aren’t friends with on Facebook will be able to see and hear whatever they say or share in the room. Other than that information, they’ll only be able to see the information that they otherwise would have been able to see such as the name and public Facebook profile information, what is posted publicly or content in a common group.
