Tech Giant Google has banned videoconferencing app- "Zoom" from its Employees devices, citing Security Vulnerabilities. Google sent an official mail, The "Zoom Video Conferencing App" will no longer function in their corporate laptops and desktops.
Google bans Zoom over Security Concerns
As reported by BuzzFeed News, Tech giant Google bans its employees on the use of the Zoom videoconferencing app citing security concerns.
Google has now followed the lead of schools across the US, banning employees from using Zoom because of concerns about security. Senators in the US have also been warned against using the service.
Google sent an official mail to its employees last week, informing them that;
The "Zoom Video Conferencing App" will no longer Function in their Corporate Laptops and Desktops.
It is worth noting that Google offers its own enterprise Zoom competitor called Meet as part of its G Suite offering.
Earlier this week, the government of Taiwan took the unusual step of announcing an outright ban on the platform over security concerns after Zoom connections were routed to servers in China. China refuses to acknowledge its neighbor Taiwan’s status as an independent nation and has repeatedly threatened to invade the island.
Despite major security concerns, The company has been making efforts to make things right and reinstate trust in its users.
Last week, the company’s CEO, Eric Yuan, apologized for all these mishaps and said the team will not work on any new features for 90 days and focus on security instead. Yesterday, the firm also announced it hired Facebook’s former chief security officer, Alex Stamos, as an outside consultant to make the platform safer.
